Montana’s Glacier Country

Located in Western Montana, Glacier Country is a place you have to see to believe

Home to spectacular destinations like the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park, this region of Montana is special.

Known as the Crown of the Continent, Glacier National Park anchors the region with more than 1 million acres of glacial-carved terrain, cascading 121-meter waterfalls, striking rock faces, teal-colored streams and lakes, 1,100+ kilometers of hiking trails and the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road. A national historic landmark, the 80-kilometer-road takes travelers through the heart of the park where it crests the Continental Divide at 2,025 meters. While private vehicles can be driven in the park, guided tours are the best way to experience Glacier National Park, with options that include red bus tours, interpretive boat cruises, guided hikes, horseback trail rides and the chance to learn about the park from the perspective of the Blackfeet Tribe.

For travelers and tour operators looking for western trips and itineraries, Western Montana is a prime destination with adventures that include guest ranches, backcountry hiking or horseback pack trips into the expansive Bob Marshall Wilderness, fly-fishing on blue-ribbon trout streams, whitewater rafting and sailing on the largest natural freshwater lake in the West—Flathead Lake.

In the midst of our scenic places are touchable experiences that include American Indian pow wows on one of our two Indian Reservations—the Blackfeet and the Flathead—wildlife watching, retracing the steps of Lewis & Clark, tasting Montana at a local brewery or distillery, kicking up your heels at a small-town rodeo, soaking in natural hot springs or strolling through local markets in one of our charming communities.

Rounding out our offerings are diverse accommodations, quaint downtowns, two international airports, scenic roads made for cruising and stunning scenery that seems to be around every corner. And whether your trip to Montana is for a few days or a few weeks, be sure to take your time and soak in the state’s wide-open spaces, vast scenery and western hospitality.
